Getting the whole family together isn’t always easy. Maybe your children are coming home for Thanksgiving, grandparents are visiting for Christmas, or multiple generations are gathering for a special occasion.

An extended family photography session is a chance to document that time together—not just with one large group photo, but with meaningful portraits of the people and relationships that make your family yours.

I photograph extended families throughout Connecticut, creating a relaxed, organized experience that allows us to capture both beautiful portraits and genuine moments along the way.

My goal is to give you more than a photograph of everyone standing in a line. I want you to have images that tell the story of your family and the people who were there.

Large families don’t have to feel complicated

I know that organizing an extended family session can feel like a project in itself.

There may be grandparents to consider, young children with very different personalities, multiple households, and a long list of combinations that someone wants photographed.

You don’t need to figure all of that out on your own.

Before your session, we’ll talk about who will be attending and the photographs that are most important to you. During the session, I’ll guide everyone through the different groupings so we can keep things moving without making the experience feel rushed.

We’ll usually photograph the full group first while everyone is together, then move into smaller family combinations and individual portraits.

And if a toddler needs a break or someone needs a moment, that’s okay. We can adjust.

What to expect

01 — Tell me about your family

When you inquire, I’ll ask about who’s joining the session, the ages of the children, where everyone is coming from, and what you’d most like to photograph.

This is also the time to tell me about any grandparents, mobility considerations, or special family combinations you’d like to make sure we capture.

02 — Plan your session

We’ll choose a location and date and talk through what to wear and how to prepare.

You don’t need everyone dressed identically. Coordinating colors, textures, and overall style usually creates a more natural and timeless look.

03 — Enjoy being together

I’ll guide you through the portraits while leaving room for the natural interactions that make your family unique.

Children don’t need to sit perfectly still or smile on command. I’ll work with their personalities and energy rather than expecting them to behave like little adults.

Investment

Extended family sessions start at $700 + tax.

Sessions typically last 1–1.5 hours and include time for the full group as well as smaller family combinations, so we can capture both the big family portrait and the individual relationships within your family.
