Home Newborn Session for a Family of Five/ Ellington, Connecticut
Undoubtedly, doing a newborn photoshoot for a family where the newborn is the first child, is quite different from a newborn session with older siblings. There is more noise, more jokes, and more fun!
For all newborn sessions, it’s important to get the whole family in the picture. It’s even more so if the baby has siblings. It’s critical to do siblings photos with all and each child, to do newborn pictures with mom and dad, to show the love, the affection, the excitement of a new life. Birth of a baby is a joy for the whole family, and it should be celebrated as such in your newborn pictures. It is as much about the baby, as it is about the parents and the siblings. There is nothing more touching and pure than mom holding her tiny one week old bundle of joy, dad gently kissing the baby’s head, or a young brother or sister offering their toys to the newly arrived younger sibling. And these memories should be captured to become family heirlooms.
They are amazing! I CANT believe you captured Josie…I thought she would just be a blur!

Having their hands full with three little kids, this family of 5 opted for an in-home newborn photography session. In the comfort of their own home, they could easily adjust their young kids’ schedules, still attend to their business, and skip the torture of getting three kids ready 🙂 As a bonus, in their own house, young children feel more relaxed and comfortable with a strange adult making jokes and running around with a big black camera.
The thing is, for a photoshoot at home, one doesn’t need to have a huge house with vast open spaces. A corner and a window would do 🙂 We shot family portraits by the glass door in the kitchen, and baby alone – in a tiny corner by the Christmas tree 🙂 When family shots were out of the way, kids went to play and watch cartoons, and we could concentrate on capturing the beauty of the newest addition to this family.
You know that you are doing things right, when mom tells you she feels bad for her older two children – because they didn’t get such beautiful newborn pictures done. That’s why I do what I do. There is no greater reward.
Oh. My. God.Gorgeous. I feel bad for my other two kids😂
